Last month, the announcement was made that the Miss America pageant would no longer include the very popular swimsuit competition. This was part of an effort to “refocus the pageant’s overall message,” and to no longer judge contestants based on their outward appearance. This decision was met with a lot of controversy and many did not agree with it. And one of the people that didn’t agree was Megyn Kelly.
Yesterday on Megyn Kelly Today, Kelly was debating with some panelists about the elimination of the swimsuit competition and said that she believes that it should not have been eliminated, as it is the reason that people watch the competition in the first place.
“What’s wrong with showing women in their bikinis?,” Kelly asked. “If you’re looking for the smartest women in America, you should be at MIT. You shouldn’t be at the Miss America competition.”
