Man, talk about AWKWARD!
During Friday’s broadcast of the Yankees/Red Sox game, one of the broadcasters asked Dennis Eckersley about rivalries during his playing days. Specifically, she wanted to know about players that Eck was close with, despite being in the middle of a rivalry. And that’s when Eckersley dropped this:
“I don’t know about a rivalry, but I had a real close friend who stole my wife!“
Well damn! There’s gotta be an interesting story there!
It turns out that back in the day, Eckersley’s wife left him for a friend of his, also a professional baseball player. They had been having an affair for a while and Eck’s wife eventually left him to be with her lover. The romance was short-lived, though, and their relationship eventually ended.
