The City Took So Long To Fix A Sinkhole That The Residents Actually Grew Tomatoes In It (Video)

Residents of one Toronto neighborhood were so fed up with an ever-expanding sinkhole that they finally decided to take matters into their own hands.

After numerous calls to the city requesting that the sinkhole be repaired went unanswered, local residents decided to protest…sort of. Instead filling in the sinkhole on their own or putting up a barrier or signs, they instead planted tomato plants inside the sinkhole. And just to really illustrate how long the city has waited to respond, the tomato plants are now a few feet tall and need tomato cages to hold them up! And it looks as though this did the trick.

Just days after a news story aired about the tomato protest, crews finally showed up to fill in the sinkhole. But don’t worry, the tomatoes were dug up and transferred to a nearby community garden. See? Peaceful protests do indeed work!
