Alabama Minor League Baseball Team Changes Name To ‘Rocket City Trash Pandas’ (Video)

Baseball fans in Huntsville, Alabama now have a new home team to root for, the Rocket City Trash Pandas!

The Angels’ Double A affiliate, the Mobile Baybears are planning a move to Huntsville in 2020 and when they move, their name will change to the fan-voted favorite.

The “Rocket City” parts pays homage to Huntsville’s history as the home of NASA’s rocket-building operations and the “trash panda” part is a nod to Rocket Raccoon from Gaurdians of the Galaxy.

Interesting.

Among the names for fans to vote on were just-as-strange ones like Moon Possums, Space Chimps, ThunderSharks, GloWorms, Puffy Head Bird Legs and Space Sloths.

Apparently the name is widely loved, and how could it not be?

Literally the ballot next to the “Trash Panda” name read: “Our community is known for engineering, and no creature in our galaxy is as smart, creative, determined and ingenious a problem solver—dedicated to the challenge at hand—as our local raccoons!”

We fully expect to see more from this team soon, especially once they have meth-head night where everyone can bring their pet raccoons!
