On September 11th at around 12:50 a.m., police responded to the 2700 block of Orchard Lane for a vehicle fire that was reported. On arrival, police located the vehicle which had just been extinguished by fire crews. After speaking to witnesses, it was determined that a male suspect, identified as 20-year-old John Sutherland of Rapid City, had set the car on fire after slashing its tires. Sutherland then went inside a residence in the 2700 block of Orchard Lane and told witnesses he had started the fire. One of the occupants attempted to leave the residence but Sutherland pulled the individual away from the door several times. The individual was finally able to escape the residence before police arrived. A sheriff’s deputy would locate Sutherland, and he was placed under arrest for False Imprisonment, Reckless Burning, and 3rd Degree Vandalism.
