Traffic Stop/Stolen Vehicle

On October 25th at around 12:40 a.m., police observed a Jeep Grand Cherokee make an improper turn at the intersection of Mt. Rushmore Road and Main Street. Police attempted to stop the vehicle and it turned into the parking lot at 445 Mt. Rushmore Road. The driver did not stop, and instead circled the parking lot several times before coming to a stop. The driver was ordered out of the vehicle. Police identified the driver as 42-year-old Emerson Chasingbear of Rapid City, and after running the vehicle’s plates, police determined the vehicle had been earlier reported stolen. Chasingbear was placed under arrest for Failure to Stop for Law Enforcement, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and an existing Warrant. He was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
