We all remember how awesome this story was at first, the woman ran out of gas, a homeless man spent his last $20 to help her, they started a GoFundMe for him and it all spread like wildfire.
However, nothing good is real anymore and people suck because it was all just one long scheme.
Everyone fell in love with the story, the media lost their minds over it and they ended up being able to pocket $360,000 after fees.
For a trio of scammers, though, their entire plan was not carried out well because they split up the money, only gave the homeless man $75,000 of it while the couple lived obnoxiously lavishly instead of keeping their new wealth on the down-low.
The homeless man filed a suit, an investigation followed and in it they found 60,000 text messages as evidence including one sent to the woman’s best friend admitting to the story being fake.
Now the couple and the homeless man have been charged with “Theft By Deception” and “Conspiracy to Commit Theft By Deception” and each face 5-10 years.
We hope all of that was really worth it in the end! Thanks a lot, A-holes for crushing everyone’s faith in humanity…
