DUI/Hit & Run Crash

On November 16th at around 9:50 p.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of 5th Street and Cathedral Drive for a hit and run crash that had just occurred. Police arrived and made contact with the driver of the victim vehicle who said he was turning west onto Cathedral Drive from 5th Street when a silver Chevy Impala struck his vehicle. The Impala continued south on 5th Street, leaving the scene of the accident. Police would locate the Impala in the parking lot of 3638 5th Street. Police made contact with the driver, who was still in the car. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Dustin Campbell of Rapid City, showed several signs of impairment while speaking with police. Following a DUI investigation, Campbell was determine to be too impaired to operate a motor vehicle. Several open alcohol container were located in the vehicle. Campbell was placed under arrest for DUI (2nd Offense), Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Open Container in a Motor Vehicle, No Proof of Insurance, and Driving Under Revocation. He was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
