Deke Duncan, 73, is proof that anything you are passionate about is worth doing!
Back in the 70’s in Stevenage (Hertfordshire), England Duncan started Radio 77 in his backyard garden shed but only broadcast to one listener.
Because of licensing, Duncan could only broadcast to a speaker in his and his wife, Teresa’s living room!
For 44 years, to this day, Duncan is still doing his show but has now been offered the chance to broadcast to a significantly bigger audience!
Recently the BBC Radio Archives tweeted a video of the original report of Duncan’s unique radio career, prompting BBC Three Counties to track him down!
They had Duncan on as a guest and ended up surprising him by offering him his own one-hour special over Christmas!
Of course, Duncan was excited and emotional and we are starting a petition now to make him our collective radio grandpa.

Back in 1974, Deke Duncan ran a radio studio in his garden shed which broadcast to just one person – his wife. His lifelong ambition was to broadcast to the whole of Stevenage ????
This morning he co-presented a show with @justindealey and there was a very special surprise… pic.twitter.com/PGVWLhuN2k
