Pursuit

On November 23rd at around 7:45 p.m., police observed a passenger vehicle drive over a curb while making its way through the intersection at 5th Street and Saint Cloud Street. Police attempted to stop the vehicle as it turned onto South Street. The vehicle did not stop, and led police on a short pursuit. The vehicle came to a stop in the area of 5th Street and Fairview Street. A passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Police pursued the fleeing suspect, while other officers stayed with the vehicle. Police caught up to the suspect in the backyard of a residence in the 400 block of South Street. The suspect was tasered, but broke free of the Taser probes. Police formed a perimeter around the area and a K9 unit was called to assist in tracking the suspect. The suspect had dropped a bag of marijuana during the foot pursuit, which police recovered. The K9 located the suspect hiding under a deck in the area. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Tate Curry of Martin, was taken into custody without further incident. It was determined that Curry had a Warrant for his arrest. In the meantime, police identified the drive of the vehicle as 24-year-old Troy Weston Jr. of Pine Ridge. Police noted the strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the car turned up marijuana and numerous baggies of a white substance which field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Curry was placed under arrest for Obstruction, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Ingestion of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana, Ingestion of a Substance Other than Alcohol to Intoxicate, and his Warrant. Weston was placed under arrest for Eluding Law Enforcement, Distribution of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Both were transported to the Pennington County Jail.
