Turns out, to Colbert and probably everyone else’s surprise, Steve Carell was a mailman back in the day!
Carell stopped by The Late Show and mentioned being a postman was actually one of the hardest jobs he has ever done.
Apparently the town he worked in did not have actual delivery trucks for the drivers so rain, sleet or snow Carell would have to sit in the passenger seat of his truck while still managing to keep his foot on the gas and steer!
He acknowledges it was probably illegal but back then, who cared!
Around the holidays, though, the job seemed to get pretty fun when he would have to pick up letters to Santa!
Carell said he would write special notes to let kids know their letter was picked up and sent and that is why he is a damn national treasure.
