Pursuit

At around 1:25 a.m. on December 23rd, police observed a pickup truck squeal its tires as it made a right turn onto West Main Street from Piedmont Street. The truck then accelerated away at a high rate of speed. Police activated their emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to catch up to the pickup. The truck then pulled into a parking lot near 2010 West Main Street, continued through an alleyway, and then through the parking lot at 2040 West Main Street. It crossed West Main Street and then turned into the parking lot at 745 Mountain View Road before coming to a stop. The driver was ordered out of the vehicle and identified as 22-year-old Kylar Nielson of Rapid City. Upon contact, police noted the smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Following a DUI investigation, it was determined Nielson was too impaired to operate a motor vehicle. He was placed under arrest for Eluding, DUI, and Exhibition Driving before being transported to the Pennington County Jail.
