Family Finds Hundreds Of Praying Mantis Babies From Nest In Christmas Tree (Video)

Apparently next year when you all go to pick out your Christmas trees, you better be checking for praying mantis egg masses!

No, they’re not festive walnuts or just part of the branch, they are actually nests with 100-200 praying mantis eggs!

If you bring it into your house with the eggs, they will end up hatching and then you will have a real mess on your hands like mantises climbing all over and when they can’t find food they decided to eat each other instead!

It all sounds pretty disgusting but for this Virginia family, the mom sees them as a sign of good luck and is letting her kids round up the bugs and keep them as pets in terrariums!

Seems crazy but the kids are loving it, even naming the bugs things like “Devon.”

They think it is great because they get to learn about bugs and nature and then they will release them to survive in the wild in the spring to spawn and hatch in more Christmas trees next year!

The best gift is the gift of science, right?

They’ll probably just ask for iPads next year…
