Pursuit

At around 12:50 p.m. on May 27th, police observed a pickup truck make a turning violation as it turned from E. North Street onto Milwaukee. Police attempted to stop the vehicle but it proceeded north on Milwaukee. The vehicle then turned west on Anamosa, the north on Herman Street. The vehicle stopped in the area of Herman Street and Downing Street. The driver was issued commands to turn the vehicle off. The driver ignored these commands and then proceeded to drive through the dead end of Herman Street. Shortly after doing so, the vehicle got stuck in a drainage ditch. The driver eventually exited the vehicle, and on contact with the driver, police noted the strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. The driver was identified as 51-year-old Matthew Quickbear of Rapid City. After a DUI investigation, police determined he was to impaired to safely operate a motor vehicle. During the subsequent investigation into the incident, it was also determined that the vehicle was stolen. Quickbear was placed under arrest for DUI, Eluding, Driving under Suspension, and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. He was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
