DUI Crash

On June 10th at around 4:45 p.m., police responded to the intersection of E. Highway 44 and Elk Vale Road for a report of a single vehicle that had struck a light pole at a high rate of speed. After speaking to witnesses, police determined the crash happened after the Nissan passenger vehicle ran through a red light at the intersection while eastbound on Highway 44. The Nissan had to swerve to avoid a collision with another vehicle which was legally turning through the intersection. This caused the Nissan to lose control and strike the light pole. Police observed several cans of beer that had been scattered as debris from the crash. Marijuana and associated paraphernalia were also located in the debris scattered from the crash. The driver was identified as 29-year-old John Anagnostopulos of Rapid City, and police noted the smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. He was ultimately placed under arrest for DUI, Reckless Driving, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
