Disabled Russian Man Decides Against World’s-First Head Transplant

Back in 2015, a guy from Russia volunteered for the first ever full head transplant but is now deciding against it.

Valery Spiridnov is confined to a wheelchair because due to a disease called Werdnig-Hoffman, a form of a spinal muscular atrophy.

While an Italian doctor has successfully completed the surgery on monkeys but there was a strong risk of death had he gone through the surgery.

Spiridnov backed out of it, though, because he fell in love, got married, had a kid, moved to America and is working on his master’s degree.

While he still supports the research, he wants to be able to fully be there for his family and also having your head surgically removed and put on a new body just doesn’t sound like a quick recovery.

We think he probably made the right decision with that one.
