Study Finds Laugh Tracks Trick You Into Thinking ‘Big Bang Theory’ Is Funny

Sitcoms are known for being there for a quick, pretty easy laugh but what if there wasn’t a laugh track built into the show to tell you when something is funny?

That’s what researchers at University College London were trying to figure out, does adding laughter to a joke increase the perceived humor value?

So basically, comedy programs since the dawn of time make jokes that weren’t overtly funny that wouldn’t normally get a long laugh add laughter to prompt the audience to react, as described by the study’s lead author professor Sophie Scott.

Looking at shows like Big Bang Theory we think this is absolutely true because it is horribly awkward without the laughs added and quite frankly, not very funny!

Check it out for yourself!
