DUI Crash

On August 11th at around 8:15 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of West Chicago Street and Deadwood Avenue for a report of a single vehicle crash near the intersection. On arrival, police located the vehicle in the field on the northwest corner of the intersection. The vehicle had struck a light pole, sheering it off its base. Contact was made with the driver, identified as 21-year-old Taya Berber-Thurman of Rapid City. Police noted the strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person. She was evaluated and cleared by medical staff on scene. Following a DUI investigation, Barber-Thurman was placed under arrest for DUI and Reckless Driving. She was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
