On August 9th at around 3:10 p.m., police were dispatched to Baken Park for a report of a suspect that had pulled a gun on another individual. Police made contact with the victim in the parking lot at 655 Mountain View. The victim advised the suspect was walking southbound through the parking lot. Police made contact with the suspect and detained him. He was identified as 24-year-old Daniel Loftus of Rapid City, and a loaded pistol was located on his person. After speaking to the parties involved, it was determined the incident began as a road rage incident as the vehicles were travelling westbound on Omaha Street. When the vehicles came to the stoplight at Omaha Street and 5th Street, Loftus pointed the gun at the victim. Loftus was placed under arrest for Aggravated Assault and transported to the Pennington County Jail.
