My “No-Snooze” Challenge

Monday: Is it technically hitting the snooze of you turn off the alarm, but lay there until the second scheduled alarm goes off? This is my back up in case I would have accidentally turned off the first alarm and fell back asleep. But I think knowing that I had made this challenge, I didn’t let myself. Do I feel more rested, somewhat. I’m going to continue this through the week and let you know if I see an improvement in my energy and alertness.

Check out this article on how snoozing affects your health:Why Hitting The Snooze Button Will Screw Up Your Entire Day

Tuesday: So fell off the wagon this morning. I Hit The Snooze…just a couple times. Didn’t sleep great and kinda groggy. So, I’ve committed to at least 5 days straight…so tomorrow I’ll start over. As a little bit of a disclaimer, I have NEVER been a morning person. If there is not an alarm set, I can easily sleep til late morning. I have tried for years to “train” myself and at my age, I’m pretty sure that is not going to happen. But I am honestly giving this a try. So, day one again tomorrow.

Wednesday: So, I guess I need a partner to keep me accountable and do this with me. I was sleeping like a log this morning and I HIT THE SNOOZE! I’m a pretty determined person when I set my mind on something and I will continue to attempt this until I fulfill it for 5 straight days. So, Yes, I will try for a day 1 again tomorrow morning. What can I say, I like my sleep, but I also want to feel better and have more energy during the day and according to that study, this may be beneficial. But try reminding me of that when that alarm sounds.  And so the challenge continues.

Thursday: Didn’t go back to sleep after the initial alarm went off. Didn’t get up right away, but didn’t hit the snooze. We’ll see what tomorrow morning brings. So far, feeling ok.

Friday: Last night, based on the advise of that article, I did move my alarm out to when I would truly get up and not earlier to allow for hitting the snooze. (Probably should have done this on Monday).  I did wake up and turn off the alarm, but honestly, I fell back to sleep for about 10 minutes. Then it was the panic wake up that the article warns about. So, I will take the weekend off and get rested up, go to bed earlier on Sunday night and start again on Monday as day 1 and give this another run. Sticking to a strict schedule of the time I go to bed to get a full nights sleep by the time my alarm goes off. It’s all about the routine, right?! If you want to join me, feel free to comment and we can do this together. And yes, as a result as described in the article, I do feel groggy.

Update: so the No-Snooze Challenge as been put “On Hold” for the time being until I can get my go-to-bed time on a more regular schedule and re-arrange some things.
