50th Season of Black Hills Community Theatre Presents – Harvey

May 11, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Black Hills Community Theatre presents its final mainstage show of its 50 th season with the comedy Harvey by Mary Chase. Elwood P. Dowd is the most pleasant and charming man you’ll ever meet.  And his best friend is pretty nice too, if you like six-foot tall invisible rabbits. A wonderful chance to see one of the most popular plays in the American theater canon, which earned playwright Mary Chase the
Pulitzer Prize in 1945.

Elwood P. Dowd is an affable man who claims to have an unseen friend named Harvey — whom Elwood describes as a six-foot, one-and- one-half- inch tall rabbit. Elwood introduces Harvey to everyone he meets, much to the chagrin of Veta, his social-climbing sister, and Myrtle Mae, his unmarried niece. Veta increasingly finds his eccentric behavior embarrassing and decides to have him committed to a sanitarium. However, things only get more stressful for Veta when they get to Chumley’s Rest as misunderstandings occur, romances bloom, and things reveal themselves in surprising ways.

Harvey is directed by Holly Godber. Godber is currently the President of BHCT’s Board of Directors and has previously directed Pirates of Penzance, Love, Sex and the IRS, and Driving Miss Daisy for BHCT.
The cast features Keely Texel-Geldert as Myrtle Mae Simmons, Mo Zimney as Veta Louise Simmons, Craig Pfeifle as Elwood P. Dowd, LaRee Mayes as Mrs. Ethel Chauvenet, Crystal Hohenthaner as Ruth
Kelly, R.N., Barry Longden as Duane Wilson, Jeffrey Alan Smith as Lyman Sanderson, M.D., Gary Thoreson as William R. Chumley, M.D., Kristol McKie as Betty Chumley, H. Streeter Shining as Judge
