Lunch & Learn: Red Ribbon Skirt Society | Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) Awareness Presentation

October 16, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The Red Ribbon Skirt Society raises awareness of the 70 reported missing and murdered indigenous women in the state of South Dakota from the 1970s to present day. Join us Wednesday, October 16 from noon to 1 p.m. at the downtown library (610 Quincy Street, upstairs), for a short film and a presentation by Mary Black Bonnet and Carla Douglas.

The Red Ribbon Skirt Society supports the children and families left behind in numerous ways including their creation of a center for healing prayer and remembrance at Racing Magpie gallery. The center provides a place for offerings and prayer with names of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and is the only one of its kind in the United States.

Mary Black Bonnet is a citizen of the Rosebud Sioux tribe, a poet, artist and volunteer curator for the MMIW Center for Healing at Racing Magpie. Carla Douglas of the Okanagan First Nations and Shuswap First Nations of Canada specializes in grief and bereavement, sex trafficking and LGBT issues.

While lunch registration is closed at this time, feel free to bring a lunch and join us for this event.
