Hollywood could absolutely write this situation into a sitcom and wouldn’t make it any less unbelievable when it comes to how this Chicago homeowner discovered his property on the South Side had been overtaken by some alleged squatters.
Apparently, the alleged squatters have been accused of doing this before so when Marco Velazquez received basically the legal equivalent of a shrug from authorities, he took matters into his (and those of family and friends’) hands. Velazquez and his crew moved in with the uninvited guests, setting up air mattresses in the living room, making for extremely awkward cohabitation.
The accused squatters then demanded $8,000 to vacate but were talked down to $4,300 in a cash-for-keys deal. All this to prove the age-old adage, “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.”
