The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, Friends of the Devereaux Library and the Elks Theatre will host the 24th annual Nostalgia Night Film Series: “From the Request Line,” Jan. 14 to March 18.
This year’s series brings 10 classic feature films that were requested by loyal Nostalgia Night fans.
Each film is shown at the historic Elks Theatre downtown. Proceeds of the annual event will support Devereaux Library at SD Mines.
This year’s series includes the following films, each shown at 7:15 p.m. on Sundays.
- Jan. 14: “From Russia with Love”
- This is Sean Connery at his best as Bond … James Bond. Stirred or shaken? Either way, this 1963 classic is sure to please.
- Jan. 21: “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”
- Don’t miss this rollicking, energetic 1954 musical. Howard Keel and his six rowdy brothers search for the perfect brides.
- Jan. 28: “Cape Fear”
- Hang on to your seat! Robert Mitchum, in his most villainous role, terrorizes Gregory Peck in this heart-pounding 1962 thriller.
- Feb. 4: “Lover Come Back”
- Cinema’s favorite couple, Doris Day and Rock Hudson, face off and hijinks abound in this 1961 fun-filled comedy.
- Feb. 11: “Kelly’s Heroes”
- A star-studded cast led by Clint Eastwood and Telly Savalas takes on their own secret World War II mission in this 1970 action film.
- Feb. 18: “Raiders of the Lost Ark”
- Harrison Ford stars in this 1981 blockbuster adventure. Indiana Jones finds danger, adventure and intrigue in the film that started it all.
- Feb. 25: “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir”
- This timeless, charming 1947 fantasy stars Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison. A love story that lasts a lifetime and beyond.
- March 4: “All the President’s Men”
- Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman bring headlines to life portraying real-life reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein in this superb 1976 classic. A scandal that shook the nation.
- March 11: “His Girl Friday”
- Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell star in this terrific, must-see film. Hilarity abounds in this 1940 comedy.
- March 18: “A Big Hand for the Little Lady”
- Join Henry Fonda in a trip back to the Old West. Joanne Woodward and Jason Robards Jr., also star in this 1966 delight. The surprise ending will cap off the film series.
