First Friday Musical Vignette Featuring Kenny Putnam with Special Guest Jami Lynn

July 6, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Journey Museum & Learning Center welcomes award winning artist Kenny Putnam and special guest Jami Lynn to the First Friday Vignette Series stage on Friday, July 6th beginning with a social hour at 5:00 p.m. At 5:30, interact and play along with Kenny and Jami Lynn as they share the stories of pioneer music.

Sponsored by Image Up Creative Services, First Friday Musical Vignette featuring Kenny Putnam with special guest Jami Lynn is free to JMLC and National Music Museum members. It is included in the museum admission experience for visiting guests. Every First Friday includes a mixer with complimentary light snacks and beverages available for purchase.

Kenny Putnam is probably most well-known by locals for his talents as a violinist, playing with a variety of local groups including the Red Willow Band, Song Pilots, and Campfire Concerto. But those hands that so skillfully wield a violin bow are also busy with cameras, paintbrushes, tablets, and a variety of other artistic and technological mediums. The proverbial Renaissance man, Kenny is an arts professional with a wide range of talents.

Hailing from the Great Plains of eastern South Dakota, Jami Lynn began performing folk and bluegrass music at the age of thirteen. It took little coaxing from her grandfather to make the transition from the audience to the stage, where old-time country, polka, and regional folk music reigned supreme. She has written and recorded albums that gathered wide acclaim.

First Friday Vignettes are an addition to The Journey Museum and Learning Center’s exhibit ‘the Music and Immigrants of the Dakotahs’. German, Irish, Jewish, Norwegian, Lakota – we all come from different backgrounds. ‘Music and Immigrants of the Dakotahs’ celebrates the diverse heritage of our great state, and acknowledges how music played a role in shaping cultural identities. View artifacts that are over 100 years old, discover the stories of Dakotah Territory families and experience the melodies that molded generations.
