D.C. woman, Anna Lee Dozier, thought she had scored a 20 or 30-year-old reproduction of a Mayan artifact but discovered it was worth a lot more than the almost $4 she paid for it.
Dozier got home with her vase and was proud to have found it at her local thrift store. She displayed the item in her home until she went to Mexico for a work trip and thought the artifacts they were looking at looked similar to her vase at home.
She then got some information on dating the item and found out it was a the ceremonial urn that belonged to Indigenous Mayan people, dating back between 200 and 800 AD.
Instead of selling the nearly 2,000-year-old artifact, she gave it back to Mexico so it can go to a museum.
