2018 One Book South Dakota Author Talk: “Informing the News” by Thomas E. Patterson

Americans have access to more information than at any time in history, yet widespread misunderstanding among the public on critical issues of the day still exist. “Informing the News” proposes knowledge-based journalism is crucial to the future of democracy and public information speaking not only to journalists, but to all who are concerned about the integrity of information on which America’s democracy depends. Voice your opinions Friday, October 26 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the downtown library (610 Quincy Street, downstairs), when Professor Thomas E. Patterson leads a discussion on his thought provoking book.

Thomas E. Patterson is Bradlee Professor of Government and the Press at the Harvard Kennedy School and is the award-winning author of “Out of Order.” His research has been funded by the Ford, Markle, Smith-Richardson, Pew, Knight, Carnegie, and National Science foundations. Patterson graduated from South Dakota State University in Brookings and received his PhD from the University of Minnesota in 1971.
