The Pennington County Commission officially recognizes and welcomes the 32nd Annual He Sapa Wacipi Na Oskate, Black Hills Powwow. The event brings thousands from across the region and nation over Native Americans’ Day weekend. Activities are planned October 5, 6, and 7, 2018, at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
The Board of Commissioners joins the Black Hills Powwow Board of Directors in inviting the community to participate in the many planned activities and welcome our guests. “It is one of the premier American Indian cultural events in the United States,” says Board Chairman Lloyd LaCroix. “We endorse this weekend filled with activities and encourage everyone to join hands in friendship and reconciliation.”
The Pennington County Board of Commissioners will consider a proclamation in support of the Powwow at the beginning of the Tuesday, October 2, 2018, meeting at 9:00 am.
Recommended events include the Native Americans’ Day Parade, 10 am Saturday, October 6, in downtown Rapid City. Four grand entries are scheduled at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Barnett Arena scheduled for Friday, October 5, at 6:30 pm; Saturday October 6, at 12:30 pm and 6:30 pm; and Sunday October 7, at 12:30 pm.
