This year, as in previous years, the State Bar of South Dakota is underwriting the “Ask-A-Lawyer” program where members of the public can obtain free legal advice, which will be available from:

6:00-9:00pm- Mountain Time

7:00-10:00pm- Central Time

Lawyers will gather in Sioux Falls and Rapid City to answer anonymous phone calls. Those calling in on toll-free numbers will only be asked for identifying information for purposes of determining the reach of the advertising and information distribution. No attorneys will give their names, nor will they refer to cases to any other attorneys. If attorneys are deemed necessary, the State Bar referral number or other public agency numbers will be given.

This endeavor allows the public a chance to get basic legal questions answered, to determine whether they need a lawyer, or how they should best pursue their rights under the law.
