Autism Society of Black Hills Pairs with Pac-Rat Palace to Raise Funds

April 28, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

The Autism Society of the Black Hills is pairing with Pac-Rat Palace of Rapid City to raise funds for its summer programs.

Pac-Rat Palace, a consignment store located at 1350 Deadwood Ave., will hold a sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. Customers can purchase any three select sale items for $2 total. All proceeds from this sale will benefit the Autism Society of the Black Hills.

“With April being National Autism Month, we wanted to hold the sale to raise awareness and donate funds to our local Autism Society,” said Beverly Sears, owner of Pac-Rat Palace.

Autism is a chronic developmental disorder that impairs the ability to communicate and interact. The mission of the Autism Society of the Black Hills is to improve the lives of all affected by autism and autism spectrum disorders, such as Asperger syndrome.

Autism is estimated to affect more than 2 million individuals in the U.S., according to the website Autism Speaks. One out of 42 boys and one in 189 girls are diagnosed with autism in the U.S. – and autism statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identify around one in 68 American children as on the autism spectrum.
