The Jr. NBA Skills Challenge will be held Saturday from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at South Middle School.
The skills and drills competition event, sponsored by the NBA, is free to boys and girls 14 years of age and younger with youth 12 years and younger in the 12U division and 13 and 14-year olds in the 14U division. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and participants must provide a valid birth certificate at the time of registration for age verification and a parent or guardian must sign a waiver form on-site. The local competition is scheduled for 10 a.m. and first, second and third place winners in each age/gender group must be present to immediately advance to the regional competition at 11 a.m.
The skills and drills event will include ball handling, passing, shooting, footwork and conditioning, rebounding, offense and defense.
“The Jr. NBA Skills Challenge is a great opportunity for youth to share their skills in a competitive and fun environment and to learn more about the game at the same time,” said Jeff Richardt, Recreation Specialist for the City Parks & Recreation Department.
Coaches and volunteers are needed to assist with the event for registration and on-court administration of the skills challenge. Volunteers must arrive at 9 a.m. to go over event details and responsibilities. To volunteer, contact Amy Borton with Jr. NBA at404-641-0847.
