Turtle Soup – “Helen Duhamel”

The Journey Museum and Learning Center is wrapping up Women’s History Month with a special Turtle Soup presentation on Helen DuhamelFriday, March 30th at Noon. Join Helene Duhamel as she shares the story of her grandmother, broadcaster and businesswoman Helen Duhamel. In a traditionally male dominated field, Duhamel was a pioneer for women in media.

Helen Duhamel’s legacy is seen and heard every day. In the early 1940s, she took an interest in KOBH radio, the only radio station serving western South Dakota at that time. Bythe beginning of the next decade, KOBH radio had been transformed into KOTA radio station and was operated under Duhamel Broadcasting Enterprises. Duhamel’s next venture was the creation of KOTA-TV in 1955.  Helene will share Helen’s success story that spans five decades.

Helene Duhamel is a Public Information Officer for Pennington County Sheriff ’s Office. She began her career in communications with KOTA-TV, where she served as a reporter, producer and anchor for over three decades. Helene is a graduate of Stanford University.

Feed your mind and your belly with the Turtle Soup Lecture Series. Every Turtle Soup features a presentation on historic figures who influenced Black Hills history and includes soup from Angel’s Catering. Admission for Turtle Soups are included in the regular cost of admission to the Journey Museum & Learning Center.
