Graduation season is upon us and while, yes, it often seems we Americans have become pretty cynical, we sure love celebrating graduations of any kind.
Whether its because of pride in the achievement itself or because it’s a reason to party, we love it.
That’s why when this Russian graduate was walking around, still in her cap and gown, and was elated and amazed by how many kind words, and how many times strangers said “congratulations”, “you rock”, and other variations. It’s all fun, but when she says she was raised to believe Americans’ smiles were always fake…it kind of stings!
