At around 2:50 p.m. on December 12th, police responded to building G at 1721 N. Maple Avenue for a report of gunshots heard outside the building. Witnesses stated they observed two subjects run into an apartment shortly after the shots were heard. Police responded and formed a perimeter around the apartment. Occupants of the residence were ordered out. Two males, identified as 19-year-old Mason Means and 41-year-old Rocky Yazzie (both of Rapid City), eventually exited the residence and were detained. Inside the residence, police located a handgun hidden in an upstairs bedroom. On further investigation, Means was placed under arrest for Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm While Intoxicated, and a Warrant. Yazzie was also arrested on an existing Warrant. Both were transported to the Pennington County Jail.
