We can all appreciate vending machines and all the cool new developments in them. Now, instead of just getting a quick drink and a candy bar, there are cupcake machines, hot coffee machines and even pizza machines!
We think we have it made but in Japan, there is approximately one vending machine per 25 people, which equates to over five million machines! With all of these vending machines, there is a quest to keep people interested and coming back. Japanese beverage company, Dydo Drinco, relies on these machines for 80% of their revenue. The President of Dydo, however, says that he wants to move beyond the company’s core market of middle-aged office workers and reach out to young people like students and foreign tourists.
Through games to win free drinks, a smartphone/point-system app and potential ideas for pre-ordering vending-machine products, Japan is trying to bring a mass appeal for their millions of munchie machines. Now, if only America could advance our vending technologies, we’d really appreciate it!
