Assault

On July 3rd around 7:05 p.m., police were called to 301 N. 5th Street for a report of an assault in progress. Police spotted the suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Michael Rasch of Box Elder, walking away from the area. Rasch repeatedly ignored officer commands to stop. A K9 unit arrived to assist with the call. Rasch continued to ignore officer commands and walked into Rapid Creek. The police K9 was deployed and bit Rasch. Rasch was able to free himself from the bite and began to float east with the current of the creek. Two officers were able to run ahead and enter the water in an effort the get Rasch under control. One of the officers deployed his Taser successfully on Rasch and police were able to get him out of the water and into handcuffs. He was transported to the Pennington County Jail, where a search of his person turned up marijuana. Rasch was booked on charges of Aggravated Assault, Obstruction, and Possession of Marijuana.
