As if running a marathon isn’t hard enough already, there are some people who decide to make it just a little harder.
Irene Sewell of Chattanooga, Tennessee is a runner and has ballroom dancing experience. After reading about a woman from London who was attempting to break a world record for running a marathon in high heels, Sewell thought, “Why not me?” So for the last few years, she’s been training. And over the weekend, she did it. Irene set the world record for a high-heeled marathon, beating the previous record holder by two minutes! She finished in just under seven-and-a-half hours, at a pace of approximately 17 minutes per mile. Pretty damn impressive, considering she was wearing freakin’ high heels!
