Early yesterday, it was announced that Matt Lauer had been fired from NBC’s Today because of a very detailed account of him sexually assaulting a female coworker during the Sochi Winter Olympics back in 2014. In the not even 24 hours since Lauer’s dismissal, a few clips from the past have surfaced that are really…awkward.
In the first clip from 2012, Katie Couric was a guest on Watch What Happens Live and was asked about the worst thing about working with Matt Lauer, as she had hosted Today with him for 15 years. Couric responded, “He pinches me on the ass a lot.” Well, that’s a red flag.
And in the second clip from three years ago, the Today cast did a musical production that started with a skit where Matt Lauer shows off in his underwear to the female anchors. He has to have his pants ironed at the last minute, and when they walk in on him, he says “Drink it in ladies. Get it while it lasts.” The respond by saying, “Again Matt? Really? It’s the third time this week!” Apparently Kathie Lee Gifford wrote the bit.
And while the argument could be made that both of these clips were just jokes, it really makes you wonder if the jokeswere really based in a bit of truth.
