Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement

On June 9 at about 6:48 p.m. officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at North 7 St. and Anamosa St., where the driver and registered owner was known to have an active warrant for his arrest. The driver was positively identified as 41 year old Timmey Johnston of Rapid City. After the initial contact with Timmey the officer walked to the rear of the vehicle. Timmey Johnston put the vehicle in reverse and drove quickly toward the officer. The officer, believing he was going to be run over by the vehicle put his hand out. The officer used the vehicle’s momentum and when the vehicle struck the officer’s hand he was pushed out of the path of the moving car. A pursuit ensued and the driver finally stopped the vehicle and ran from the area of the 1100 block of Farlow Ave. A perimeter was established and a canine was brought to the scene to assist with tracking the driver. Timmey was located hiding in some bushes just to the south of where he abandoned the vehicle. Timmey Johnston was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Aggravated Eluding of Law Enforcement, Possession of a Controlled Drug, a Probation Hold and a Warrant. No one was hurt during this incident.
