Pursuit

On November 1st at around 6:15 p.m., police observed a passenger vehicle fail to properly stop at the stop sign at East Madison Street and Milwaukee Street. A traffic stop was attempted on the vehicle but it did not stop and continued south on Milwaukee Street. At some point during the pursuit, the vehicle broke its axel and ended up coming to a stop in the roadway near the intersection of Lacrosse Street and E. New York Street. The driver then fled from the vehicle on foot. After a short foot pursuit, police were able to apprehend the driver and he was identified as 31-year-old Billy Robertson of Rapid City. A search of the path he ran turned up a bag containing a substance which field-tested positive for methamphetamine. A search of the vehicle turned up marijuana and an open container of alcohol. Robertson was placed under arrest for Aggravated Eluding, Obstruction, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Distribution of a Controlled Drug, Possession of Marijuana, and Open Container in a Motor Vehicle.
